No Trick -- Silly String Banned in Hollywood This Halloween

HOLLYWOOD, Oct 30, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- For the fifth Halloween in a row, Silly String is banned in Tinseltown. In accordance with Los Angeles Municipal Code 56.02, anyone caught possessing, using, selling or distributing Silly String in Hollywood will have their products confiscated and be subject to a $1,000 fine and/or six months in jail. The "no-tolerance" ban will go into effect at 12 a.m. on Oct. 31 and last until 12 noon on Nov. 1. The ordinance, which was created to ensure a clean and safe Halloween for the tens of thousands of individuals who visit Hollywood Boulevard each Halloween, was first implemented in 2004.

It was championed by current Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti and Councilmember Tom LaBonge in direct response to the requests of Hollywood Boulevard property owners.
